Jim Dingilian has a special skill that not many of us in this world share.
He collects empty liquor bottles of all shapes, sizes and colours. They can be found anywhere, whether it’s by the street side, in trash cans or littered in parks. He then takes them home…and lights a candle underneath the neck of the bottle.
What happens next is just magical…
Jim lets the candle flame create a layer of smokey soot that coats the inside of the bottle. Then with an unbelievably steady hand, he slowly brushes the soot away with a tiny paint brush.
And the end result looks something like this:
Using different amounts of pressure and incredible wrist control, Jim wipes and etches away with skewers and needles to construct these incredibly detailed landscapes.

Dingilian’s bottles prove that you can find beauty anytime, anywhere. Even in discarded liquor bottles! You just have to open your eyes to the limitless possibilities that are out there. You can find Jim’s work in art galleries all across the US, including the Museum of Art and Design in New York.
