The art of tattooing has been around for centuries. But it’s only in recent times that inking has been taken to the next level. With better technology and techniques, today’s tattoos are more fade resistant and look sharper and better than ever. With an increasing number of people getting inked up these days, if you want to be happy with the results for years to come, you better find a tattoo artist that’s going to deliver the goods (enter Chicks News…).
To get those creative juices going, we’ve rounded up some of the hottest tattoo artists and their masterpieces from around the world. The level of detail and style you’re going to see in these pics is absolutely mind-numbing. Speaking of numbing, some of these tats definitely took more than a few months to complete – but if you’re thinking of going for a unique and highly personalized look, the results are probably worth the bit o’pain.
This is a multi-part series, with each piece dedicated to one stand-out artist. If there’s a tattoo artist YOU would like to see showcased in this series, be sure to drop us a line at: webmaster@chicksnews.com
This week we feature the one and only: Xoïl.
Loïc Lavenu (aka Xoïl)
A French tattoo artist with a cult-like following, Xoïl has a very distinct style that’s best described as sprawling and surreal. Trust me, you’ll know when you see a tattoo that’s done by the master. His work is a far cry from traditional tattoos – and that’s what we love about him.
How cool is this? The ink splash details are a beautiful touch:

Note the skilled combination of sharp lines and soft blurred colours. Skill level 100+:
