Women tend to seek out auto mechanics to care for and maintain their cars. In fact, the auto industry is largely dominated by men. One woman decided this needed to change.
Patrice Banks earned a degree in engineering, but decided to return to school for auto mechanics after recognizing that women are almost entirely absent from the auto mechanic industry. After completing school and beginning to work as a mechanic, Patrice decided she wanted to help other women become knowledgeable about their cars.
Patrice founded the Girls Auto Clinic with the goal that it would empower women to feel confident when they talk to auto mechanics and understand their own cars. Over time, her clinic has gained traction and she has been able to create more programs and workshops.
